α-Ketoglutaric acid is one of the two keto-derivatives of glutaric acid (α-type. β-type is less commonly used). It is a white fine crystalline powder. Melting point 113.5℃. It is easily soluble in water and alcohol, and extremely insoluble in ether. It turns pale grayish yellow after long storage and is easy to deliquesce.
