2. Neurotrophic Factor Pathways
9-ME-BC has also been studied in astrocyte models.
Research found changes in the expression of several neurotrophic factors, including BDNF, Ncam1, and other related factors.

3. PI3K/Akt Pathway
Research suggests that the PI3K/Akt pathway may play a role in the effects of 9-ME-BC on dopaminergic neurons.
In one cell study, blocking this pathway reduced the observed effect of 9-ME-BC on TH-positive neurons.
4. Monoamine Oxidase Research
9-ME-BC has also been studied for its interaction with monoamine oxidase (MAO).
In a laboratory enzyme assay, 9-ME-BC inhibited both MAO-A and MAO-B activity.
The reported IC50 values were 1 μM for MAO-A and 15.5 μM for MAO-B. These values come from an in-vitro assay and should not be used as a human dose reference.
5. Dopamine and Synaptic Research
Animal research has examined the relationship between 9-ME-BC and hippocampal dopamine.
One rat study reported higher hippocampal dopamine levels and changes in dendritic and synaptic structure after repeated exposure. The same study also reported changes in a spatial learning task.
